Something Borrowed, Something Blue

Summer is rolling in and sweeping us along with all the fun activities, long days in the sun and here in Denmark the long light nights too. Summer often brings great adventures and many photos; and often we have a hard time sitting down at the scrapbooking table with everything going on. But in order to avoid feeling the withdrawals of not scrapping or getting a sense that you are falling behind on the stacks of scrap-worthy pics, you might consider scraplifting a layout or two over summer.
Scraplifting can be a terrific tool since it makes scrapbooking easy and quick without losing the fun of creating. I love to lift layouts; not only do I get something done fairly quickly but I view it as a chance to see how my fellow scrappers have worked, used supplies and arranged their pages.
There are various ways of lifting or taking inspiration from the work of your fellow scrappers:
- lifting the entire design in regards to paper choice, placement of paper, pics and embellishments. This is so easy and so fun; you get to do all the cutting, playing with materials and pics but you can do it without worrying about where everything goes and which embellishments to use and so on.
If you are going to lift the general design of the page it might be a good idea to make a sketch of the layout; as this gives you something to work from and a sense of the dimensions of each page element.
- just lifting parts of the design. Maybe you have seen a really cool way of doing the title, layering flowers or adding bling to your page. Well, try it out and see how it looks when you do it yourself.
- lifting a colour scheme. Do you ever see a page and just love the mix of colours used? Why not go with that and do a page using the same colour scheme while giving it your own spin?
- lifting the theme of the page; you might have pics of the kids having fun in the pool and need ideas to scrap those pics. Do a search in the gallery with words like “water”, “pool”, “play” or other words that might describe your theme. These searches will likely give you a variety of layouts with the same theme and you should be able to find one you like. And hey presto: you just have to do the scrapping.
- how about starting with the products, find a layout you like with those products and then do a page…? You might have bought some new cool stuff and now wonder what would be a perfect way to use them; once again the gallery is full of great layouts or you could refer to the Product of the Week threads where there are many beautiful pages just waiting to be lifted.
Take the opportunity to either go through the gallery to find new favorites to lift or browse through your favorites and chose a layout that speaks to you, have the amount of photos on it that you want to scrap or one that uses products you want to work with.
Remember that lifting layouts is perfectly alright and that we can all learn something from copying each other every once in while. But it would be nice of you to mention the original creator of the page you have lifted. Have fun lifting one another and come join us in the General Scrapbooking forum where there will be a scraplifting challenge running all next week.
Have a beautiful summer!
