Buttons, Buttons, who’s got the Buttons? The LM design team, that’s who! For a while buttons seemed to go out of vogue as they seemed to be associated with country and cute. Now they are back and the design team is finding some sophisticated, funky and graphic applications for the latest batch of buttons to hit the store. What is the latest in buttons you ask? My Mind’s Eye has released Tres Jolie, a collection of gorgeous buttons of many shapes, sizes and textures. These come in little glass jars that are perfect for displaying buttons that come in colors like Bonjour Vert, Mon Cheri Bleu, Je t’aime Corail and Oui Oui Peche. For a wider range of colors, Autumn Leaves has a Bag of Buttons to match each of their three new collections, Foofala Bella, MOD Primary and Rhonna Farrar French Twist. Or for something different, check out the new wooden buttons sets from Sweetwater. The buttons coordinate with the Classic, Sprinkles, Squeeze and All about me collections. The sets come with wooden buttons and stickers that fit in the center of the buttons. Don’t go by the image in the store, instead take a look at the layouts by Madeline and Vickie to see the true cuteness of these buttons in action. But what to do with all of these buttons once you have them? Well, as one team member commented recently, buttons are very handy little items for some of the following purposes:

When Kate first asked us to share our scrap spaces I was completely terrified at the thought. I have no organizational skills to speak of nor does my room look like something out of a magazine. I’m just like many of you – still trying to define my space/area, always seeking out ways to organize as well as making do with the less than perfect space on hand. The first thing to note about my room is that it is still a guest bedroom; therefore, I have a bed taking up some valuable scrap real estate. That was the deal with my DH when he helped me relocate from the dining room on the main floor to this room upstairs so it isn’t going to change anytime soon. The second thing you will notice about my space is that I prefer my products to be tucked away out of site for the most part. I know a lot of people say that their supplies have to out and within easy reach in order to use them but not me! In fact, having all my stuff staring back at me when I get ready to scrap completely overwhelms me! With few exceptions, only those things that I deem “pretty” or “interesting” get to be placed out in the open. I also have to tell you that this room looks nothing like the rest of my house! I wanted this room to be just for me so I used many of my favorite girly colors. My husband recently repainted it for me. It was a nice color before but was not very feminine as it was formerly my son’s room. I chose a color that I painted my aunt’s kitchen a couple of years ago, Laura Ashley Pale Apple 2 from Lowe’s. I love it as it is so fresh and happy. Now on to the pictures. Photo 1: The room is located at the top of the stairs so I positioned the chest in the doorway so at first glance it looks like just another bedroom. I labeled each drawer with the contents using some old Rob and Bob plastic luggage tags. Drawers are: new products, in progress projects, photographs and alterable objects. I also have one drawer that is empty most of the time. I call this my “clean sweep” drawer. When we are having a guest and I need to straighten up my room in a hurry, I throw stuff in it!
Photo 2: Close up of top of chest objects including the ubiquitous initial. I love flowers so I often have fresh ones in my room.
Photo 3: I “listen” to the TV while scrapping. My latest layout, good or bad is always displayed here. The chest it sits on is part of the bedroom set that belonged to my now deceased mother-in-law. I just did not have enough room in the other bedroom for all the pieces so I relocated it to my room even though it doesn’t really match anything else. I placed some of my favorite books in it and the drawer has a tray filled with various colored pens. I’ve also looped some of my favorite twill in the drawer handle.
Photo 4: The aforementioned bed. I found the whole set of bedding last summer on sale at Target for about $40. The colorful suitcase set was on clearance last fall at Pier One Kids and I have placed some of my favorite embellishments inside them. They remain open most of the time unless someone needs to use the bed. Otherwise I can close and stack them somewhere else. The bed looks neat now but a lot of times I use it as another surface! I also store other less often used things underneath. So it does have its uses.
Photo 5, 6 and 7: The lingerie chest is also used to store supplies. I labeled each drawer with Rob and Bob coasters that I cut up. Drawers contain buttons, ribbon, completed layouts and miscellaneous items that I otherwise can’t find a place for. I recently switched to the Magistical Memories ribbon wraps for my loose ribbon. I’ve tried several solutions and this one works the best for me. On top of the drawer is a basket containing Heidi Swap products- guess you can tell that I love her stuff!
Photo 8 & 9: I scored on the dirt cheap Pottery Barn shelves a few months ago. I love them; they are functional and they look nice too. They contain some decorative items as well as products. Most of the jars are from the kitchen and I spray painted the lids.
Photo 10 and 11: Workspace! The chest (which is a bedside table) my printer sits on contains printer paper, photo paper and extra ink cartridges. I bought the table to use as a desk several years ago at a furniture salvage store and relocated it to my scrap space. The chair was my grandmothers that I spray painted aqua.
Photo 12: I searched a long time for ink pad storage last year; most solutions were too expensive for my budget but a friend suggested this. It’s made of cardboard but is very strong. As you can see I have run out of slots though! I don’t really like it in this spot but I haven’t found another place for it. The stand with the tins holds brads. The basket holds my acrylic blocks.
Photo 13, 14 and 15:
These are photos of the closet which contain a lot of my supplies. My husband put up the wire shelf on the door for me and it holds paint/glue, etc. And yet more ribbon on a hanger!
I bought the shelf at Ikea for $19. The staggered shelves the stamps sit on came from Lowe’s. At one time I considered myself more of a stamper than a scrapbooker. I really need to get rid of some of them but I hate the idea of hassling with Ebay so here they all sit.
The inside of the closet originally only had the single wire shelf at the top but my husband added the lower one as well as the two short sides. I quickly realized that things weren’t going to sit properly on them so I started looking around for something lightweight and smooth to place on top of them. I found the Lucite-like pieces at Lowe’s and they cut them to the size I needed. The shelves contain my cardstock and older patterned paper in Cropper Hopper vertical storage containers. The books and magazines are in clear plastic book containers from Office Max. I usually keep current +1 year of my scrap magazines. The Cropper Hopper organizers contain clear stamps, letter stickers and small rubons and are sitting on 3 of 5 Iris carts (not shown). At one time all 5 Iris carts sat in my dining room. No wonder I had to move as there is no way to make them look nice! I started out with one and they started multiplying like rabbits as I collected more supplies. I recently purged and reorganized the drawers. I still need to label each drawer so I don’t get frustrated looking for things.
Photo 16: A jewelry roll hangs on the back of the bedroom door and contains some smaller and older embellishments.
Photo 17 and 18: This is my desk purchased from Ikea. It’s now sitting in its third spot in the room. But I think it is now where I need it to be due to all the natural light from the window. I selected it because it can be changed for project height or desk height. Right now I mostly stand to work but I wanted the option to sit if I decided too. On one bottom shelf I have my newer patterned paper and cardstock in Cropper Hopper vertical storage containers. The other shelf contains tools. The wood blinds are lowered in this picture but 95% of the time they are drawn up to the top for the natural light.
Photo 19 and 20: A few decorative items. I bought the scissors on Pottery Barn clearance last year. I found the glass piece in Austria several years ago. I don’t remember what it’s called but the inside pieces start spinning when the light hits it. I would love some artwork – street vendor type stuff – just haven’t found anything that I like yet.
That’s my scrap space! Thanks for looking and if you have any questions, just pm me. |
