30 Days of Gifts - DAY 8:

Small Treasures

by Miranda Isenberg,LM Design Team

The Chris Gift Box from Bare Elements has a myriad of possibilities! Just think of all the different ways it can be decorated and used. It can hold any number of small bits and pieces and with the magnetic lid, nothing will fall out! (size of box: 3 7/8" x 2 1/5" x 1 1/8")

I decorated a few for my kids, each one getting the perfect theme for their own personal needs.

SNACK BOX:

My oldest son loves to buy treats from the snack line at school. This little box was just the right size for holding his change and storing in his backpack or locker until lunch time.

  1. I covered the lid and four sides with coordinating papers and sanded the edges.
  2. I used a mixture of stickers to spell out “Cameron’s snack money” on the lid.
  3. Inside I made a small clock from a chipboard circle, patterned paper, stamps, a photo turn and a brad.
  4. To go along with my clock, ‘TIME 4 a treat’ is spelled out using additional coordinating stickers.

BUG BOX:

My middle son absolutely LOVES bugs. He’s always catching them so he can inspect them close up. I thought this little box would be the perfect way for him to catch and hold the bugs while he checks them out. J

  1. The first thing I did for this box was mark and cut the hole in the lid.
  2. Next I covered the lid with patterned paper. I sanded the edges and around the opening.
  3. I covered all 4 sides using velvet paper.
  4. Next I added the window, just a little piece cut from the empty packaging from a sheet of Chatterbox stickers. I used my KI gloo to secure the plastic on the inside of the lid.
  5. I cut out individual bugs from my patterned paper and glued them around the lid.
  6. Using my black marker I added the bugs legs/antenna on the lid and on the inside of the window.
  7. For the inside of this box I used a mixture of alphabet stickers and an Urban Lily chipboard circle.

After everything else was done and dry I used my paper piercer to poke holes in the side and back of the box so the bugs would have air to breathe.

Supplies used:

TREASURE CHEST

For my youngest son I decided to make him a ‘treasure chest’. He loves collecting tiny things… lego people, miniature cars, bits of paper and ribbon… if it’s tiny, he wants it. This will be the perfect place for him to store all of those tiny treasures.

  1. I covered the lid and four sides with coordinating papers that I inked before adhering.
  2. I used a mixture of rub ons and stickers to spell out “my tiny treasures” on the lid.
  3. Inside I made a large X using paper. I topped that with additional coordinating stickers to spell out ‘marks the spot’. Now he knows just where to find all of his most precious treasures!
