BE Donner Ornament

Donner Ornament by Vickie Brown

For this project, I used the Bare Essentials Donner ornament to create an ornament for my new niece. Using Carolee's Creations Holiday Stripes patterned paper, I layered various strips of the patterned paper and adhered them to the ornament. After covering with a light coat of Modge Podge, I added a photo of my adorable niece, then glued the back and front pieces together. After adding some KI ribbon and GinX rubons, the ornament was complete!

If you don't want to use a photo in the center of the ornament, try using rubons to make a monogrammed ornament, or use one of the KI Memories Joyful epoxy stickers in the center!

Comet Ornament by Jackie Bogert

Like Vickie I had my new niece in mind for her first Christmas! I started by painting both pieces of the ornament.

Next I printed out a photo of Avery sized perfectly for the window of the ornament. TIP: I measured the window to be 1.75". I opened up a recent photo of her in Photoshop Elements, selected the Elliptical Marquee tool, and while holding down the shift key, 'drew' a perfect circle around her head (not worrying about the size of the circle, just sizing it to be what i wanted showing in the window). Then I cropped the photo to that selection. Next I resized the width of the image to 1.9 inches (to allow some wiggle room when i put the photo down). When I printed, it was now the perfect size for the window!

I traced the star ornament onto the back of the KI shimmer paper I wanted to use, then cut it out. Then on the back I drew lines parallel to the star edges about 1/8" in and trimmed. That way I would have a border so the red paint would show. I used this piece as a template to cut the stripe KI paper for the back of the ornament as well. For the center of the front, I used the ornament as a template to draw the circle, then cut out 75% of the inside of the circle. Using my scissors I cut small slits for the rest of the circle so that when I covered the ornament I could fold them each back through the middle. (i did this because i didnt want to try my hand at having to cut a perfect circle with my scissors in order to leave space for the red paint to show, but if you have the perfect size punch or circle cutter that would work too!

I then adhered the photo to the back of the front ornament piece and 3 pieces of ribbon to the back of the back ornament piece. Using KI Gloo spread evenly across both insides, I pressed them together and held til dry.

The KI Color lab kits have such fun items in them! I found the letters to Avery's name and adhered them to the front of the ornament. Then I used the star crystals and put them at all corners of the star on both sides of the ornament as well as at the bottom of each ribbon. I also used the Red Hot Cookie Cutter and New Leaf Cookie Cutter cardstock stickers on the back to put the year and outlined them in white with my white signo.
